Ericeira

Ericeira has been declared international surfing reserve (there only 2 surfing reserves in the world) thanks to its nice beaches and surf conditions. Here you can find the right wave of Ribeira d'Ilhas that on good days looks like Bell's Beach in Australia.

Surf Trip to Ericeira

The Ericeira area has a higher and more rugged coast than Peniche, with several bays set into the cliff. Ericeira is a fishing village 50km North of Lisbon. The region has an excellent exposure and, therefore, a high frequency of waves breaking on both beach breaks and reefs. The gems of the region are certainly Coxos and Ribeira d'Ilhas, two spots that break on a flat reef. The wave, in both cases right, under ideal conditions, is exceptional. Coxos holds swells of considerable size, while Ribeira, which has several sections, can merge and create a very long wave. The area offers conditions for all levels, making it ideal for surfing, as evidenced by the numerous surf camps available.

Quando andare

Ericeira is an area, such as Peniche, which can be good all year round, but the wind here can be a problem, because all the spots require winds from the East or South East to work in optimal conditions. As a result, the Nortada, the north wind blowing over Portugal in summer, or the strong winds from the West that accompany winter swells can spoil the party, so it is recommended autumn as the optimal period. It should be noted that, however, at any time of the year, Ericeira can find ideal conditions and show its gems. In Europe, however, it remains one of the most consistent areas, even in summer.
