Il surf

Bali is a beautiful Indonesian island, perhaps the most famous one because of its fascinating culture and white tropical beaches. Every year it attracts thousands of surfers from around the world who want to ride its perfect waves. Nowadays it is an island that offers all the modern comforts, but it is still a destination where you can sleep and eat with few dollars. Bali has a high concentration of very good spots that is unmatched in the rest of the world; it is fully oriented to receive swells from the South West, which, after traveling thousands of miles, reach the Balinese shores. In Bali there are 3 areas for surfing:

  • The beautiful Bukit peninsula which has some of the best left reefbreaks in the world such as Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang and Balangan. The Bukit is exposed to SW swells in summer and is blessed with a steady offshore wind that brushes the waves perfectly. It is a suitable area for intermediate and expert surfers. Crowding is high, but not excessive.
  • The west coast of Kuta and Canggu with its beaches and beach breaks also suitable for beginner surfers
  • The east coast with high level spots like Nusa Dua, Sanur and Keramas or Lacerations and Shipwrecks on the island of Nusa Lembongan.

Bali is a magical island that will welcome you in the best possible way, satisfying both the beginner and the expert surfer.

Quando andare

Bali has waves all year round, but the best time is certainly the summer from May to September, when almost daily SW swells, with an average period of 12-13 seconds, hit the Bukit Peninsula and the beaches of Kuta and Canggu, bringing waves between 1 and 4 m. (3-13 feet). In this season the wind blows offshore from the East, brushing perfectly the waves on the west coast. The best months are June, July and August, when most of the days the waves have an impressive quality. These months register the higher crowding in the water. In the remaining months of the year, the waves have a lower size and the wind shifts westerly, allowing spots on the east coast to work at their best. The sea water is warm throughout the year. It's important to not underestimate the tide that affects the quality of many waves. Malaria is absent from Bali so there is no reason to worry about.
